Excellent article. It is so worrying and disappointing that UKGOV with an 80 seat majority have not effectively challenged SNP in their dismantling of all things British. What other sovereign nation would allow a secessionist party any where near the levers of power? Devolution needs to abolished or completely overhauled ASAP.

Totally agree, Stephen. I don’t care whether it’s Sunak or Truss but we need someone who’ll put Sturgeon back in her box. The United in UK is the most important bit but everyone seems afraid to take on the Nats. Change the Act of Union, make agitating for the break up of the UK unlawful. What can the Nats do? Nothing. We Scots are fed up of the divisive rhetoric of these serial incompetents.

Just so . Underneath it all that’s what most right thinking Scots believe . It’s not that the SNP’s arguments are so telling …it’s because Unionists have been so lax in theirs . If I had to choose I would prefer to see Truss as PM . Sunak to my mind does not have the interests of the Union at heart . As they say he has no skin in the game . He’s rich beyond dreams and won’t care a whit about independence one way or another . Truss certainly won’t want to be remembered as the one who oversaw the breakup of the UK and she’ll be a tough adversary. In the end everything boils down to well-being and prosperity. If that is true , we simply need to remind all concerned that from day one the rest of the UK won’t be meeting Scottish state pensions …..that ought to clarify thought processes nicely .

….funny you should mention Orwell ….I’ve just started reading 1984 and even within the 1st chapter there are suggestions of Sturgeon’s modus operandi. Her supporters are surely incapable of independent thought and need to be led by the nose to the promised land .

You might find it strange but I agree with you and therein lies one if the great contradictions in unionists like Stephen's arguments. If only you realised that Sturgeon is your best friend as she has no intention of taking Scotland to independence.

Throughout her tenure as leader of the SNP and first minister of Scotland she had put in place the building blocks for thwarting the cause of independence and strengthening the union. I cant understand why some people cant see this.

I say this as an ardent supporter of independence and someone who played a big part in getting Dundee to the largest percentage of yes votes in 2014.

Scotland will never achieve independence until Sturgeon and her husband, Murrell goes.

Sturgeon and to some extent her invisible husband have no real desire to see Independence through . To go for another referendum would mean a huge risk both personally and politically . Such a move , if unsuccessful , would either set back independence decades or indeed kill it completely . Sturgeon and Murrell have no desire to see their way of life ruined ….they would risk losing the prestige , the trappings of power and of course the money . In an adverse way Sturgeon is The SNP’s greatest drawback . She has been damaged by scandal , authoritarianism and a total lack of transparency . The biggest problem however is the fact that for over a decade Scotland has been in the doldrums in every sense . Nothing else matters other than Independence and that has caused Scotland to lose traction in economic and every other field .

Agree with everything you say Stephen. A combined effort, Labour and Lib Dems need to join the Conservatives. Only hope against rampant SNP who believe they have a ‘mandate’. Thugs and morons wouldn’t recognise democracy if it kicked them in the b***s.

I agree a good article. However I feel WM are too frightened to legislate and reform devolution as there would be an outcry. However most of Scots are sick of this constant threat of independence when there is no mood amongst us for such a vote. There is a lack of investment from outside companies to settle in Scotland simply because of this turmoil the SNP cause. I wanted devolution but now both Labour and certainly the SNP have proved they cannot govern in Scotland so would support Holyrood to be closed after all it is not working.

Oh dear , what a childish rant and it is only 38 years out of date

Orwell really would have been proud of you. The one word you left out was democracy , probably because you don’t know the meaning of the word. You even managed to get the Hitler youth into your rant.

People like you reinforce the need for Scotland to be rid of you and your creed

The worst democracy deniers are those who ignore the results of the independence referendum. They know who they are.

That's all well and good, but we ought to understand first why so many people will keep voting SNP, even if there are pictures of Sturgeon and her cabal eating kittens and wear puppies' fur.

Very important article. Sitting here in Scotland, I agree entirely. This article is relevant too: https://capx.co/mind-your-manner-how-can-the-next-pm-take-on-nicola-sturgeon/
