I have no idea how high Stephen Daisley ranks in the journalistic pecking-order (if such a thing exists). I sincerely hope it's very high, for Scotland's sake. I read all I can on Scottish politics and he is the only writer who describes the problems and suggests suitable remedies. At the very least I hope he has the ears of a few of the movers and shakers. The constitutional vandals of the SNP need putting down permanently.

"According to the deathless Whitehall soundbite, ‘Scotland wants its two governments working together’, a formulation that implicitly concedes an equality between UK and Scottish ministers."

You don't mention my pet hate "a four nation approach" which is now used EVERYWHERE. If we don't change the vocabulary we use, the idea that the Scottish assembly is equal to the UK Government can came as no surprise.

Stephen is one of Scotlands top journalists.. Truth and common sense approach to politics..

we need more like him in our media controlled country..

as he says Sturgeon and her cronies do nothing for the good of the country.. only what good for the SNP. Scotland could be so much better with a real leader..not a narcissist…

Great article. Let’s hope our new prime minister acts on the points you raised.😊

Very well said, Stephen. Drawing clear lines of demarcation around what the devolved regime cannot do is essential. Successive Presiding Officers have failed us. They should have ruled anything to do with the constitution ultra vires for Holyrood unconditionally. There should have been no debate and no vote on any referendum. It needs to be reiterated for as long as necessary that the business of a devolved administration is that which is devolved. Your small point about the merging of party and state is well taken and needs to be pointed out forcefully.

Very little recognition or naval gazing here as to the role incompetence, wilful negligence and the nonsense that is Brexit has played in the rising tide for independence. If you're governed from Westminster by idiots for long enough then the desire for seperation will only grow. The tories have made it almost a fait accompli since June 24th 2016...the demographics make indy inevitable no matter what the UK govt tries to do...Scotland is culturally distinct, a nation that is not a nation and just because it's spent 300 years in a union does not for one second mean it needs to stay that way. The world is changing continuously and Scotland's burgeoning desire to go it alone is not to be feared but embraced as a positive, exciting challenge. Nothing is sacrosanct.

Suggest you pen a letter to Liz Truss and propose yourself as personal adviser on Scottish politics. That should do it. The SNP need to be put in their place and you have just written how to do it!

Before you start tarring people you have never met and don’t know as not nice people, and being judgmental I will give you the benefit of the doubt, As I have never met you that you are a nice person.
